The Strawbs - Cara Dillon – Steve Harley Acoustic trio – Julie Felix
Returning to a beautiful part of the country with our first Folk Festival in Cornwall....... Traditionally held in Ilfracombe, this year we have relocated the festival just 17 miles down the road, crossing the border into North Cornwall to Penstowe Manor, a really tasteful intimate venue near Bude. To celebrate our rich history of Folk Music, this year's line-up comprises a mix of traditional sounds from across the UK and wider afield, offering something a little different for those that like a broader musical experience! With The Strawbs, Cara Dillon and Steve Harley Acoustic trio headlining, plus some unforgettable names and fifteen other acts, this is certain to be a great festival and one live music event not to miss in the South West! The full line-up over the three days is as follows: FRIDAY The Strawbs - Wildwood Kin - Molly's Kiss (Fra) - The Salts - Ålesund – Another Act to be announced The Strawbs started life as the Strawberry Hill Boys before emerging into the mainstream from the exciting British Folk Movement of the mid 60s alongside other such luminaries as Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Al Stewart and Roy Harper. The Acoustic Strawbs of the 21st century consist of the founder, constant guiding force, originator and lead vocalist Dave Cousins, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as the best Dylan influenced songwriter to come out of the UK. Alongside him long-time band members lead guitarist Dave Lambert and the astonishingly versatile Chas Cronk, who together formed the front line of the classic 1970s Strawbs. SATURDAY Cara Dillon (Ire) – Roger Davies And His Band – Katherine Priddy – The BeauBowBelles – The Shackleton Trio –The Luck If you don’t know the voice of Cara Dillon, you’re in for a treat and if you are already amongst her legions of admirers around the world, you know you have something special in store. The extraordinary Irish singer makes music that transcends genres and crosses barriers. She has won every folk award going, but confesses to being no purist, making music that reaches beyond the constraints and limitations of tradition. “Some folk musicians want to know every detail about a song, and I really empathise with that,” adds Cara. “But it’s not what’s important to me. I just identify with a song, I’m looking for something that touches me deeply, and I feel like I’m the vessel for letting it live on.” SUNDAY Steve Harley Acoustic trio – Julie Felix – Honey & the Bear – Said The Maiden – Crayon Angels – Daria Kulesh Steve Harley, the original Cockney Rebel, tours frequently with his Acoustic Trio, playing an intimate, unique and atmospheric show. The performance promises subtle lyricism, mingled with great improvisation and rocky rhythms. Close-Up Culture: “An intimate night in the presence of a great musician. Steve will be accompanied by his Cockney Rebel band-mates of long-standing, Barry Wickens [violin & guitar] and James Lascelles [piano and percussion].
